Once a home to more than one-thousand households, Honghu Lake has seen a mass departure of its longtime residents.
Spanning over 40-thousand hectares this lake used to be the bread basket for a staggering 12-thousand fishermen who lived off fishing on its waters.
Today, over 90-percent of these families have moved onto dry land due to the lake's deteriorating state.
