This year's Boao Forum for Asia is underway in south China's Hainan province.

More than 1,800 government officials, entrepreneurs and experts in various industries will discuss a wide range of topics in the coming days mainly in relation to globalization and free trade.

Zhou Wenzhong, Secretary General of the forum, says the "Belt and Road" initiative is among the major topics of discussion this year.

"I think the "belt and road initiative" is China's idea to promote globalization. For countries along the route, if they could really talk with each other, join hand in hand to build, and share the fruits of growth, and put their own problems in seeking growth as well as goals of future development into the agenda of "belt and road" initiative, I believe, this will help us to further integrate and achieve a better future together."

As a major dialogue platform for Asia and emerging economies, the Boao Forum, as its organizer says, is necessary to put globalization into perspective and champion a more inclusive globalization through its Annual Conference.

Secretary General, Zhou Wenzhong, said Asia and emerging economies are one of the biggest beneficiaries of globalization, having emerged as one of the strongest drivers of this process.

He is due to deliver a proposal on promoting globalization during the forum.

The opening ceremony for this year's event will be held on Saturday. Global growth, reform and the new economy are also among the highlights of the session this time.
