100 electric buses made by Chinese car maker delivered to Chile

Chinese car maker BYD has delivered 100 electric buses to the Chilean government on Thursday, in what is the largest delivery of electric buses for public transportation to arrive in Latin America.

The new buses will contribute to the Chilean government's environmental protection efforts. BYD Chile spokesperson Tamara Berríos said that running one BYD electric bus was equivalent to reducing carbon emissions from 33 cars.

This latest delivery of buses will be put into service on routes in Santiago.

BYD entered the Latin American market in 2008, and started promoting its electric vehicles business in Chile in 2014. Electric vehicles made by the company are already widely used in Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, and Uruguay.
