Japan's major telecom operators reverse ban on selling Huawei gear

Japan's three major telecommunication operators KDDI, Softbank, and DOCOMO have reversed their ban on sales of Huawei products.

KDDI and SoftBank restarted sales of Huawei products on August 8, and DOCOMO started accepting orders for the P30 Pro on Tuesday. KDDI has reassured customers who buy a Huawei smartphone that updates to their phone's Android operating system will continue to be made available.

After the United States imposed import restrictions on Huawei, the three companies in Japan stopped selling Huawei products. On Monday, the U.S. Department of Commerce said it was giving Huawei a 90-day temporary trading license for a select range of products and services. But it also included 46 more Huawei-related companies on the export control list, bringing the total number of listed Huawei entities to 114.
