Three dead in E China crane accident

Three people died after falling off a tower crane Monday at a construction site in east China's Anhui Province, local authorities said Tuesday.

The accident happened at 12:55 p.m. in Tongcheng City, the press office of the city committee of the Communist Party of China said in a statement.

The three workers were installing a tower crane at the construction site of a development project, but were thrown off the cab when its railings suddenly loosened and gave way, the document said. 

One of them was killed at the scene and the other two died later in hospital, the document said.

The local government has launched an investigation.
