Chinese Ambassador to the UK: Belt and Road Forum Will Focus on Cooperation for Common Prosperity

The Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation to be held in Beijing next month will focus on "Cooperation for Common Prosperity" and will be the highest-level international gathering on the Belt and Road initiative, said Liu Xiaoming, Chinese ambassador to the UK.

The Chinese ambassador was speaking at the UK Business Roundtable Conference on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor held in London on Tuesday, April 4, 2017. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a key intersection on the Belt and Road route, running from Xinjiang in China's northwest, through Pakistan to the Port of Gwadar.

Liu said that Britain is welcome to take part in the process of building the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. And to participate, he suggested Britain should engage in closer communication in the project, play up its strength in international financing and adopt a long-term vision in its investment.

The Chinese ambassador also said Britain is China's important partner in the Belt and Road initiative. He says China is more than happy to see Britain playing an active and constructive role in the initiative. He said that the development of the Belt and Road initiative came from China, but, the benefits generated will be shared by all stakeholders. "In other words, it's not China's 'pie' to cut or take the 'lion's share'."

China will host the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing next month.
