Chinese netizens go wild about panda chomping on bamboo
For the panda, it might have been lunch - or maybe just another snack, but for Chinese netizens it became the trendiest and most addictive thing online.
A clip of a panda noshing on bamboo has become the newest viral video sensation on China's Twitter-like Weibo, racking up seven million views and over 100,000 shares in just five days.
A giant panda can spend 13 hours a day eating up to 30 kilograms of bamboo, and while there's nothing unusual about the wild bear chewing on its favorite food, the clip turned out to be a hit among netizens.
For some, the sense of satisfaction they got from watching the bear chomp on bamboo shoots was mixed with disbelief that they spent three minutes - the full length of the video - watching a panda being a panda.
"I can't believe I watched it eating for three minutes while doing nothing," a user who goes by the name @Bengdi said.
Others said the clip whetted their appetite for bamboo ... and a more vegetarian diet.
"Call me crazy, but I want to have a bite," stated another Weibo user @baiyiqianqianlala.
"This panda is the living proof that you can be happy eating only veggies," commented @benbenblade.
"I'm on my way to buy bamboo," noted @Elizabethhuahua.
