Russian Consulate in Shanghai celebrates V-Day on Bund

Around 100 people from Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and Uzbekistan have gathered around The Bund in Shanghai to celebrate Victory Day this past weekend. 

The individuals, invited by the Russian Consulate in Shanghai, sang the legendary song "Katyusha," and also danced on the terrace of the consulate building, to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany, which falls on May 9th every year.

Black and orange ribbons of Saint George, a Russian military symbol, were also handed out. 

A. Evsikov, Consul-general of the Russian Consulate in Shanghai, has also taken time to note the 100th anniversary this year of the Russian Consulate being established in Shanghai. 

"This [the Victory Day] is one of our most important festivals, nearly 20 million people from the former Soviet Union died in the anti-Fascist war, and we cannot forget the endeavors they made," Evsikov said.
