AIIB president says Cambodia on right track of economic development
Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank President Jin Liqun said on Wednesday that Cambodia is moving on the right track of economic development and the bank is ready to assist the country in its socio-economic development, a senior Cambodian official said.
Jin made the remarks during a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen at the Peace Palace in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, said Eang Sophalleth, an assistant to the prime minister.
"Jin told the prime minister that Cambodia is walking on the right track because it has peace, stability, potential for investment and pro-investor policy," the assistant told reporters after the meeting.
According to Sophalleth, Jin said that AIIB is ready to support Cambodia in the development of transport infrastructure, ports, electric power, and manufacturing industries.
For his part, Hun Sen said that the Cambodian government is giving priorities to the development of human resources, irrigation system, transport infrastructure, and electric power.
Besides, the government has also just adopted its Industrial Development Policy 2015-2025, which focuses on the diversification of the industrial base and promotion of domestic small and medium enterprises.
Jin is visiting Cambodia to attend the World Economic Forum on ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), which will be held in Phnom Penh on Thursday.
