Created in 1982, the PAP is tasked with maintaining law and order, dealing with riots and terrorist attacks, and responding to natural disasters and other emergencies in China.

It's made up of uniformed active-duty servicemen and is regarded as one of the three integral parts of the Armed Forces, along with the PLA and military reserve forces.
