An Introduction to 'From University to the World 2017'
From University to the World is an annual event organized by China Plus, China Radio International (CRI)’s English media brand. It aims at enhancing communication between Chinese and foreign youth by bringing them together to discuss issues of common interest. This year, the event will be held in Cape Town, South Africa on September 1.
First launched in 2011, the event has gradually established its reputation as an important cultural exchange platform between Chinese and foreign university students. In the past, students from several reputed universities have taken part in this event, such as University of California, George Washington University, New York University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Shanghai International Studies University and the Communication University of China. In 2016, From University to the World was held in New York. It was the first time the event was hosted outside of China.
This year, China Plus brings the event to Cape Town, South Africa! The theme of this year’s discussion is “China and South Africa: What keeps Us Connected?” Ten student representatives from Chinese and South African universities were selected through an online video speech contest conducted by China Plus. They will meet in Cape Town to discuss the connections between their countries as part of the BRICS group, South-South Cooperation, and the Belt and Road Initiative. Hosts from China Plus and South African media will chair the dialogue together. This year’s event will be broadcasted globally via livestreamings on Facebook, Weibo and other social media platforms. It will also be aired on China Plus’ domestic and overseas radio frequencies.
