Beijing bungee halted after tourist water plunge

A Beijing bungee jump has been halted after a tourist unexpectedly plunged into water, reports Beijing morning post.

The accident happened on Friday in Shidu, Fangshan District in far southwestern Beijing.

A woman jumped off a high platform at a scenic spot, bounced up and down before plunging down into the water below.

She was sent to the hospital but suffered no life-threatening injuries.

According to a statement of the company operating the bungee jump, the incident was due to poor communication and inaccurate judgment between staff working on the platform and on the ground, and it insisted that there was no problem with the equipment.

Earlier reports had suggested the cable had snapped. Other reports said that too much cable was released due to a winch malfunction.

The staff involved have been suspended from duty, and the problem is being corrected.
