19th century Chinese slave remains found in Peru
The remains of 16 Chinese men have been discovered by archeologists at a pre-Inca sacred site at Huaca Bellavista in Lima, Peru.
It's believed they arrived in South America almost two centuries ago as semi-slaves.
Five of the bodies were found in coffins, while others were wrapped in fabric. It's believed the burials date from between 1870 and 1890.
The secret tomb in Lima is the biggest burial site of Chinese migrants ever found in Peru. Alongside their remains were found opium pipes and other personal objects used by the migrants.
As many as 100,000 Chinese migrants arrived in Peru in the second half of the 19th century, often performing back-breaking work for little pay.
