SF Express tests emergency drone delivery
Chinese logistics firm SF Express has tested the delivery of emergency supplies through the use of a large drone, reports thepaper.cn.
A domestic-developed large drone delivered equipment which would have been needed for the quick repair of communication facilities in Yunnan Province on December 26, 2017, simulating an urgent situation.
SF Express tested an amphibious drone earlier this year. The company also has a number of small and medium size drones for use in personal deliveries.
Li Dongqi, vice president of SF Express, is suggesting drones are supplement to traditional cargo aircraft services, and are being tapped mostly for logistic services to remote areas. He notes drones also help overcome a systemic pilot shortage in China.
