Qin Qin, a 37-year-old eye doctor from a hospital in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, has been working on the semi-autonomous island in Tanzania since June, 2017.

She is a member of the 27th Chinese Foreign Aid Medical Team which has been sent to the the island of Zanzibar.

Aside from offering clinical diagnosis and treatment to local patients, Qin and her colleges also pass along their knowledge to local medical staff.

"As a famous proverb goes, give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, but teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Simply relying on Chinese doctors is far from enough. It's better to provide thorough teaching to them," said Qin.

"Every time a new Chinese doctor comes, I learn new techniques. I have learned a lot from Dr. Qin. China has sent us doctors to help us in Zanzibar, and we do need them," said Qin's assistant from Zanzibar.

Since 1964, China has been assigning medical teams to Zanzibar for two year tours.
