Chinese students and scholars in Stockholm attend Spring Festival Gala

Chinese students and scholars in Stockholm, Sweden have taken part in a Spring Festival gala for the forthcoming Lunar New Year. It's the 10th Spring Festival Gala held by Chinese students and scholars, this time attracting over 1,000 people.

"2017 was an extraordinary year in Chinese history because the 19th CPC National Congress has put China into a new era which means China will fulfill its promise of building a comprehensive healthy and wealthy society. China will create a modern socialist society by 2035 and a strong modern society by 2050. We have high expectations for our overseas students," says Chinese Ambassador Gui Congyou, who spoke at the opening of the Gala.

"Chinese President Xi Jinping hopes Chinese students overseas can enhance the glorious tradition to serve the motherland after studying abroad. Hope you have grand goals and study hard in order to become talented people who can shoulder greater responsibilities in the future. We want you to serve the motherland. People with your capabilities will be able to make contributions to realization of the great Chinese dream," said Gui.

The Gala has included dancing, singing and cross-talk performances.

The Gala was jointly organized by Chinese students and scholars from five major universities in Stockholm, including the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm University, Karolinska University, the Stockholm School of Economics and the Sino-Swedish Education, Science and Cultural Exchange Association. 

It has been supported by the Chinese embassy and a number of Chinese companies in Stockholm.
