With the most advanced designs for traffic conditions, traffic participation, information communications and 5G technology, the testing base is specialized for intelligent connected vehicles, including autonomous vehicles, said Yu Zhuoping, a professor at Tongji University.
The base consists of one ring road and three regions. The three regions focus on driving tests at the low automatic level, and in both urban and rural traffic conditions.
Some other automakers have also announced cooperation with colleges to build ICV testing bases.
Shanghai is gradually opening more roads for ICV testing.
