National library builds first Internet information storage base

The National Library of China (NLC) has started building the first Internet information storage base in collaboration with Sina, a major IT company in China, as a part of the country's Internet information resources collection and storage system.

All the news released on the the Sina website and blogs posted on Weibo will be stored in the Internet information strategic storage base.

As of December 2018, the Sina website had released more than 210 million news articles, over 1.3 billion pieces of multimedia information and over 8 billion interactions. More than 200 billion blog posts, over 50 billion pieces of multimedia information and nearly 500 billion comments have been released on Weibo. New content posted on Sina and Weibo will also be stored in the base.

The Internet information storage project aims to record the development of civilization and the latest fruits of Chinese civilization, and the national library needs to cooperate with more social sectors to achieve the goal, said Rao Quan, curator of the NLC.
