The Asia Society Policy Institute, a U.S. think tank, published a report on the Belt and Road Initiative this month. The report, "Navigating the Belt and Road Initiative", was written by Daniel Russel and Blake Berger, who set out to provide recommendations for how China and its partners can help ensure the initiative yields beneficial and sustainable developmental, economic, environmental, civic, and social outcomes.
The report looks at ongoing Belt and Road projects, and provides 12 recommendations on topics including contracts, financing and procurement processes, environmental and social impact assessments, and supervision. The authors have also released an interactive visualization of their recommendations that details specific implementation steps, intended outcomes, and precedent from China and elsewhere.
