Orders open for China’s 1st plant-based meat
Production of China's first plant-based meat patties are underway and customers can now order them online.
The patties are made from plant proteins including those from non-genetically modified soy beans. Other ingredients include wheat and starch. They are made to resemble the taste and texture of beef. Every 100 grams of the plant-based meat contains 11.7 grams of protein, according to their online sales page.
The meat is produced by Chinese ham and sausage maker Jinzi in collaboration with U.S. company DuPont.
The plant-based meat patties sell for 118 yuan (16.7 U.S. dollars) for four pieces on Taobao, China's largest online shopping service. Shipment is expected to begin in late October.
