The small fishing village has backyards full of fish now in the late autumn. They sundry the fish in this season because of good ventilation. Also, there are few flies outside during this time of year.

The fishermen in Taoyuan village still follow the method of processing the fish that has been passed down by their ancestors: sitting on the street, picking up the pickled squid , cutting the fish belly, washing the fish bodies, and then putting it on shelves in one go.

The dried fish business is family-based. A senior fishermen said: "First I followed my parents to dry the fish. The fish I had sunbathed would fly abroad every year. You can find the fish I dried in markets in Europe and Japan."
