Death toll rises to 5 in Shanghai car crash
The death toll has risen to five in a car crash in Shanghai on Thursday, which also left nine people injured, local authorities said.
A 63-year-old driver surnamed Chen ran a red light at about 9:21 a.m. at the intersection of Daduhe Road and Nujiang Road, hitting a taxi and an electric bicycle, according to the latest notification released by the public security bureau of Putuo District.
Chen fled the scene and ran a red light before crashing into an SUV, three non-motor vehicles and several pedestrians at another intersection.
The injured including Chen are under emergency treatment in local hospitals.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
