Eleven medical workers from a hospital in east China's Jiangsu Province have been suspended from work after they released medical information about the Singaporean singer JJ Lin, reports Beijing Daily.

The singer, who is hugely popular in China, had a transfusion at the Zhenjiang First People's Hospital on Sunday after catching a cold during a concert in the city the previous day.

The news that the singer was in the hospital was leaked by hospital workers on WeChat. After Lin left the hospital, some hospital workers, who are also fans of Lin, took pictures and recorded videos of the bed the singer was in, along with the transfusion needle and bag he used, according to the report.

The videos and photos were shared on WeChat, and quickly spread online. There were even reports online that the transfusion needle and bag Lin used were up for sale.

On Monday, the Zhenjiang First People's Hospital issued a statement saying the employees had been suspended from work for six months for breaking hospital rules. The hospital clarified that no medical waste had been lost.

A commentary on the incident published by People's Daily said that medical workers should always behave professionally to avoid endangering people's safety and impinging on the privacy of patients.

Local health authorities have reportedly started an investigation of the incident and have promised to release their findings as quickly as possible.
