Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) leader Liu Yunshan Wednesday stressed the importance of green development while urging efforts to properly deal with relations between economic development and environmental protection.
Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while meeting with representatives of Saihanba forest farm from northern China's Hebei Province.
Saihanba is a vast forest covering nearly 75,000 hectares. It was a piece of barren land 55 years ago, but decades of hard work have turned it into an important ecological shield for Beijing and Tianjin.
Liu asked them to continue to support the country's goal of building a beautiful China.
More should be done to publicize their story, the building of an ecological civilization and green development concepts, the official said.
Liu Qibao, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the meeting.
