The reports were from leading Party members' groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC), and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), as well as the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech.
The meeting acknowledged the performance and progress made by leading Party members' groups of the NPC Standing Committee, the State Council, the CPPCC National Committee, the SPC and SPP over the past year.
"This year, the 70th anniversary of the founding of the New China, is crucial for China in finishing building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and achieving the first centenary goal," said a statement issued after the meeting.
To address complex and grave international situations, and reform, development and stability tasks faced by China, the leading Party members' groups were urged to closely follow the CPC Central Committee with Xi at the core in terms of thinking, political orientation and action.
They should always follow the guidance of the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, grasp the judgement, decisions and plans made by the CPC Central Committee, and unite and inspire all parties to get works done.
They were urged to impose strict Party discipline, ensure that intraparty political activities are carried out in earnest, and uphold democratic centralism.
They should also take the lead in following the eight-point decision on improving Party and government conduct and its detailed rules and spirit, as well as fighting against any practice of formalities for formalities' sake and bureaucratism.
The statement also noted that the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee has implemented decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee, better armed the Party with theory, promoted full and strict governance over the Party, guided people's organizations over their work, improved Party rules and regulations, and helped organize major activities during the past year.
The Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee should set an example in strengthening and safeguarding the authority and unified, centralized leadership of the CPC Central Committee, and fulfill tasks given by the CPC Central Committee in the new year, it said.
