'A Dog's Purpose' and final Wolverine film 'Logan' to open in Chinese theaters

Dog lovers in China now have something to look forward to, as American drama "A Dog's Purpose" is coming soon to Chinese theaters.

The film, adapted from the 2010 novel of the same title by W. Bruce Cameron, is about a dog named Bailey, as he reincarnates through four lifetimes and discovers the purpose of his lives.

The plotline spans from 1961 to the present day, as Bailey transforms into four different breeds of dogs and interacts with various owners.

The movie, with a reported budget of 22 million dollars, opened in the US late January and has already proven to be profitable, with an estimated 66 million dollars in box office sales.

There was some controversy, however, as a video clip surfaced earlier showing a startled German shepherd being forced into a pool of churning water during the filming process. A third-party investigation later claimed that safety procedures were in place during filming to protect the dog actors and that the video clip was intentionally edited to mislead the viewing public.

Also on March 3rd, Hugh Jackman's final standalone Wolverine movie "Logan" will be meeting Chinese and US audiences at the same time.

As the tenth installment of the X-Men series, "Logan" follows "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" in 2009 and "The Wolverine" in 2013.

It is expected to be Hugh Jackman's last portrayal of the superhero after having played the role for 17 years. Patrick Steward is also coming back to star as Professor X.

"Logan" premiered to positive reviews at the recently concluded Berlin International Film Festival. Hugh Jackman himself is also expected to arrive in Beijing early next month to promote the film.
