It is being reported this year's Oscar Best Picture winner "Moonlight" could soon be brought to Chinese theaters.

According to Deadline, A24, the production company behind the film, is working on a theatrical release for the drama in China, as well as an online release in partnership with China's iQiyi.

"Moonlight" from director Barry Jenkins follows the life of a young black man as he attempts self-discovery while growing up in Miami. The film was named Best Picture during a dramatic ending to this year's Oscars ceremony, when "La La Land" was initially announced as the winner by mistake.

The Oscar recognition has helped "Moonlight" get a wide release in US theaters. The low-budget movie's total global box office ticket sales currently stand at around 56 million, with roughly half of it coming from within the US.

Besides the Best Picture honor, Mahershala Ali took home the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in "Moonlight."

The movie is also set to be screened at the upcoming Beijing International Film Festival in April.
