British musical The Bodyguard performing in Beijing

British stage musical "The Bodyguard," based on the 1992 film of the same name, has opened in Beijing, following its debut in Shanghai.

The musical features songs by late American singer and actress Whitney Houston. The role of Rachel Marron, made famous by Houston, is played by British actress Carole Louise Stennett, who performs a dozen songs by Houston.

The musical first debuted in December, 2012 in London's West End as a tribute to Houston, who had died earlier that year.

"The Bodyguard," the musical, will be performed eleven times as part of its run at Beijing's Poly Theatre until July 30th.

Producer David Ian says the version currently being performed in China is identical to the London stage show.
