Internationally recognized theatre director gives lecture in Beijing
The ongoing Beijing Music Festival co-organized a Master-class of Daniel Kramer, who is the Artistic Director of the English National Opera, and an internationally recognized opera and theatre director.
The festival wants to enable audiences to hear from one of the most exciting stage directors of our time and learn about some of the iconic productions of the English National Opera.
When asked about his views on the future of opera, he took China as an example.
"There's one thing I would say so exciting to me about the rich history that China has about the performing arts. The incredible operatic language you have, the incredible dance language that you have, the incredible history of makeup and costume and fashion that you have are so ripe to be taken out of historical context and put it against, let's say---an LED screen."
Following Kramer's Master-class, Benjamin Britten's Peter Grimes was staged in Beijing by the English National Opera.
