The China National Theatre for Children will soon debut a wordless play that tells the story of the old Chinese fable "The Snipe Clam Grapple".

The moral of the story, which is well-known to Chinese audiences, is that nobody wins when neighbors fight. During the performance, the actors will use body language to express the story.

Feng Lei is in charge of stage and puppet design with the theatre.

"I try to employ the elements of nature to vividly portray landscapes in south China, including bamboo and lotus. A more important issue is how to best show the flow of water on stage. We attempted to use theatrical smoke and fog presenting the flow of water."

The new play is also hoped to enchant audiences with the wisdom of traditional Chinese culture.

The play will open in Beijing on May 26.
