Fans question NFL's choice about Maroon 5 performing in Atlanta at Super Bowl
Music fans and NFL fans are split on Maroon 5 reportedly being the halftime entertainment at the 2019 Super Bowl.
Hollywood publication Variety said that two unidentified sources had confirmed that the band, led by Adam Levine, will headline the National Football League's (NFL) championship game on Feb. 3, 2019, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Celebrity magazine Us Weekly quoted an unidentified source as saying the band has been offered the gig "and they've pretty much accepted."
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement on Wednesday that the NFL does "not have any announcements to make on what will be another epic show." Representatives for Maroon 5 did not return requests for comment.

Enraged fans on Twitter are wondering why the NFL chose Maroon 5 instead of local musicians from Atlanta who have a southern vibe, according to CNN.
The CNN report also quoted Atlanta native Ludacris as saying "Excuse me say what!?" on Twitter.
An article published in USA Today said that while Maroon 5 are a great band and should be acknowledged for their achievements in pop music, their commerciality and style rob the NFL the chance to honor Atlanta's rich hip hop culture.
