The exhibition showcases three persons known as the "Yangjiang Group", who creatively use materials like leftover vegetables, shrimps and crabs as their supplementary materials that fulfill the roles of brushstrokes, to write in delightful ways.

According to Dai Zhuoqun, the curator of this exhibition, the group with two members from a third-tier small city, Yangjiang, in Guangdong Province, was founded in 2005 at a time when everyone began to type on computers rather than writing.

They wish to integrate this antiquated artistic form of calligraphy into a contemporary context, so as to arouse public interest to appreciate calligraphy and think about its future.

A total of 17 pieces of their work are now on display at the Number 3 Contemporary Art Center in Beijing.
