"The Favourite", a love-triangle comedy set in the 18th century British court of Queen Anne and featuring three women as top stars, headed the field with 12 nominations, including best director for Yorgos Lanthimos, and both Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone who battle each other in the best supporting actress category.

Olivia Colman, star of "The Favourite", who won the Golden Globe award in the same category for the same performance earlier this week, was nominated in the lead actress category.

Other highly-nominated films include the rock band biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody", astronaut Neil Armstrong biopic "First Man", Roma and "A Star Is Born".

"Bohemian Rhapsody" won Best Film at the Golden Globes, as well as Best Actor for its lead Rami Malek, and is nominated again at the BAFTAs in both categories

The BAFTA awards ceremony takes place on Feb. 10 in a televised event in London's Royal Albert Hall.
