Jake Gyllenhaal says 'Spider-Man' role was 'thrilling'
Jake Gyllenhaal says his entrance to Marvel movies in this summer's "Spider-Man: Far From Home" was thrilling when he found out who the character really was.
Gyllenhaal plays the villain Mysterio in the second Spidey standalone to star Tom Holland. He spoke about the role while promoting his Netflix art world thriller "Velvet Buzzsaw" at the Sundance Film Festival Sunday (27 JANUARY 2019).

"Yes, I think working in a big Marvel Sony movie, particularly a movie like 'Spider-Man' and playing a character that was written as it is, it was kind of thrilling when I found out who the character really was. And yeah, it is a stretch. Being in a movie that size, it is Shakespearean in a lot of ways. And I think it asks of the actor I think something that you know when you're on stage and theater, and if you hone that muscle, it asks the same thing of you. And I hadn't – I haven't really done anything quite like it in anything I've done in movies so far."
Sundance runs through February 3. "Velvet Buzzsaw" hits Netflix on February 1.
