Johnson decided to make the movie through his Seven Bucks Productions company after seeing a documentary about a pro-wrestler named Paige.
"I was immediately hooked and compelled. And I immediately identified with this crazy wrestling family who was very loving, loved the world of pro-wrestling – all of them wrestled, by the way: the dad, the mom, the daughter, the brothers. And I come from that crazy, at times dysfunctional, wrestling family - my dad, my grandmother and grandfather, uncles, cousins, you name it. So there was something about the documentary that I really loved."
Johnson makes a cameo appearance as himself in the movie. He says Paige led a "female revolution in pro-wrestling."
"I got lucky that I played a small part in some key moments that happened in her career, and we are here, and we are at Sundance, man. It's awesome".
The film is set for release on February 14th. Sundance runs through February 3.
