The BAFTAs are the UK equivalent of the Oscars.

Stars attending this year's event included Glenn Close, Melissa McCarthy, and Richard E. Grant.

McCarthy is nominated in the Best Leading Actress category in dark comedy "Can You Ever Forgive Me?".

"It feels nuts. It feels like I'm in a fever dream and I'm going to wake up and I'm going to be like, 'Oh, none of this was real.' So it's amazing to be here and to be, to have our little film be acknowledged here, just seems beyond what we could have ever hoped it anticipated."

"The Favourite," the 18th-century royal drama, kicked off the Awards by winning the prize for best British film.
