Alfonso Cuarón won Best Director at Sunday's Academy Awards ceremony for his film "Roma."

The film tells the story of Cleo, a maid who works for a middle-class family in the Colonia Roma section of Mexico City.

In addition to winning Best Foreign Language Film, "Roma" also won Best Cinematography.

Meanwhile, Britain's Olivia Colman won a surprise Best Actress Oscar on Sunday for her performance as an ailing, petulant monarch in historical film "The Favourite."

It was the first Academy Award and first nomination for 45-year old Colman, who is one of the most prolific actresses on British television.

Rami Malek has won the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance as Freddie Mercury in "Bohemian Rhapsody."

Malek, who jumped to noteriety for his role as the troubled Eliott in the hit TV series "Mr. Robot," Malek maintains deep roots with his family, including his identical twin brother.
