Hugh Jackman provides the voice of Sir Lionel Frost in new animation "Missing Link."

Australian actor Jackman used his father's English accent as the starting point for the voice of the dashing adventurer in the globe-trotting comedy.

"My father, I remember he used to try and shut us up if we were laughing inappropriately by, 'Wipe that supercilious grin off your face,' and... of course which made us laugh more. But we used to get a lot of those English things coming up," he said.

The stop-motion animation is produced by Laika, the company behind "Coraline," "ParaNorman," and "Kubo and the Two Strings," all of which were nominated for Academy Awards.

Jackman's Frost character, an investigator of myths and monsters, travels to America's Northwest to look for the Missing Link.

Zach Galifianakis plays Mr. Link, who persuades Frost to take him on a daring quest to seek out his distant relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La. The pair team up with Adelina Fortnight (Zoe Saldana), who has the only known map to their secret destination.

"Missing Link" is written and directed by Chris Butler ("ParaNorman"), and also stars Stephen Fry, David Walliams, and Emma Thompson.

"Missing Link" will be released on April 12.
