'X Men: Dark Phoenix' cast share stories at Wonder Con

The cast and crew of "X Men: Dark Phoenix" have been sharing behind-the-scenes stories and the role of their characters at Wonder Con 2019 in Anaheim, California.

The new sequel to the X-Men franchise focuses on Jean Grey, whose vast powers may surge beyond those of any other mutants on Earth.

After a space mission goes awry, Jean's powers threaten to consume her.

"Dark Phoenix" is the first time that a female mutant will be the main character.

"Portraying all of the characters, male and female, but they had focused, the main characters were male; Wolverine, Professor X, Magneto. That was true to the original series. I thought it was time for the strong females to take the lead," writer-director Simon Kinberg told Wonder Con.

"Dark Phoenix" is scheduled to hit theaters on June 7th in the United States.
