'Project Gutenberg' the big winner at the Hong Kong Film Awards

Mainland-backed "Project Gutenberg" has walked away with the most hardware from the Hong Kong Film Awards on Sunday, April 14, 2019.

The crime thriller snatched 7 prizes, including Best Film.

"Project Gutenberg" is a co-production among Shanghai Bona Culture & Media, Emperor Film Productions and Alibaba Pictures' Shanghai division.

Felix Chong took home the awards for both Best Screenplay and Best Director for "Project Gutenberg." It's Chong's first Best Director award. He was previously nominated 3 times for his directoral work. Chong had already earned a Best Screenplay award in Hong Kong for his hit "Infernal Affairs" in 2003.

"Project Gutenberg" was a major hit this past year, earning around 1.2 billion RMB on the mainland after hitting theatres in September.

Other awards dolled out at the Hong Kong Cultural Center on Sunday included "Dying to Survive," which won the award for Best Film from the Mainland and Taiwan of China.

Mainland-Hong Kong co-production "Red Sea" took home three awards, including Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Design and Best Action Choreography.

80-year old Hong Kong actor Patrick Tse was the recipient of this year's Lifetime Achievement Award.
