Oscar-nominated Lebanese movie becomes China's box office hit
The 2018 drama film "Capharnaüm," from Lebanese director Nadine Labaki, has broken the 100-million yuan or around 14.8-million US dollar threshold in box offices during China's May Day holidays.

According to a report carried on the China Youth Daily, Capharnaüm is the only film that maintained a daily growth on China's box office chart from May 1 to 3. And aside from "Avengers: Endgame" which gained 80 percent of box office earnings during the holiday, Capharnaüm came in with ticket sales worth 139-million yuan by May 4th.
The film follows a little boy named Zain as he journeys from a gutsy child to a 12-year-old fleeing his negligent parents, surviving on the streets through his own wits.
Douban, a Chinese film and TV review platform, gave the film a high rating at 8.9. However, other critics found it to be the least entertaining movie, claiming it is evil to entertain such a tragic story.
