Chinese filmmakers make Kung fu film to celebrate Children's Day

A new film titled Good Boy and Kungfu will be released on Friday. The film centers on a young boy who is indifferent towards the hobbies his parents arrange for him such as chess, but he appears to be an enthusiast of Chinese Kung Fu.

The film's release marks the 70th international Children's Day in China.

Sun Qian, who is most famous for playing the chief maid in the popular 2011 TV drama series The Legend of Zhen Huan, plays the mother of a boy who dreams of being a kung-fu master.

"One message that people may get from the movie trailer is that the boy is willing to devote to martial arts practice despite the opposition of his grandparents and parents. In fact, it also reminds parents that if they are too rigid they can't take care of their children's needs," said Sun.

Chinese comedian Gong Hanlin (巩汉林) and actor Zheng Hao (郑昊) also star in the film.

Gong said at a promotional event held recently in Beijing that the film mirrors the emotions and true life of three generations in a family, and the whole family can watch it in the cinema together.

The veteran comedian also urges public concern about the development of children's film in China.

According to Jiang Ping, general manager of China Film Corporation, they've produced this film hoping to help arouse children's awareness of martial arts, which is an integral part of Chinese culture.

Earlier, Good Boy and Kung Fu captured the attention of organizers of the Beijing International Film Festival, which praised the film for its combination of Chinese cultural traditions with hot social topics, and interpreted the family relation via a child's perspective.
