The Netflix romantic comedy "Always Be My Maybe" is the latest in a string of collaborations between longtime friends Ali Wong and Randall Park.

The movie was directed by Nahnatchka Khan, who helped create Park's TV series "Fresh off the Boat." She celebrated the diversity of the film's creators, both in front of and behind the camera.

"Certainly for me like coming up through network TV comedy you know writing on other people's shows, a lot of times the gatekeepers are like straight white dudes," said Khan. "That was every show I wrote on. So I was like, you know what -- I'm just going to do what I want to do. I'm going to surround myself with like-minded people and like we can all lift each other up and let's see how far we get. And you just keep going and you write the things that you want to see and hopefully other people feel like they want to see it too. And you find yourself sitting here suddenly. You're like, how did I get here?"

The movie also stars Daniel Dae Kim and features a cameo from Keanu Reeves.

"Always Be My Maybe" is now streaming on Netflix.
