A children's play adapted from the ancient Chinese fable "Yugong removing mountains" is being staged in Beijing as part of the ninth China Children's Theater Festival.

The fable tells a story about Yugong, literally referring to a foolish old man, who tried to move mountains blocking the path in front of his home.

In the newly produced drama, Yu Xiaoyu, a present-day student, accidentally travels back to the age of the fable, helps Yugong with modern knowledge and becomes part of the ancient story.

The play aims to show children Chinese traditional culture and the quality of the Chinese nation.

The music features a combination of both traditional and foreign elements, including iconic instruments from Peking Opera.

During this year's festival, 57 plays from home and abroad will be staged such as "Swan Lake" and "Sleeping Beauty."
