A new documentary that tells how classic music acts as a record for the tremendous change that has taken place in China over the past seven decades will air starting next Monday (September 16).
Hunan Satellite TV invited the singer Zhou Shen to launch the new season of the documentary, called "Melodies of Time" by singing "My Motherland", a song released back in 1956. Zhou Shen is a well-known male singer with a distinctive female voice.
The new season will also see other young pop singers, including Laure Shang, Zhang Bichen, and Yisa Yu Kewei, interpret classic Chinese songs. The young singers also interview prominent figures who made significant contributions to China's development, including the scientist Yuan Longping, known as the father of hybrid rice, and veteran artists like Li Guyi and Yan Weiwen.
Exploring the stories behind the music is an integral part of the documentary. The entire series, which is now in its second season, was recently added to the collection of the National Library of China.
