A famous Chinese baritone has recently joined an international-level concert in Beijing, part of the ongoing Beijing Music Festival.

"I think the Beijing Music Festival finds a way to help, especially musicians from China, to grow up with the festival," said Shen Yang. "So I'm probably the best example: for instance, I staged Shubert's Winter as I'd done with Zou Shuang in Sanlitun, and I think this is something very risky, because you spent so much time to rehearse. But this is something that never happened in China. Finally we made it. And it was so successful. So this is something like I've grown up with the festival," added Shen.

In addition to Sunday evening's concert with Shen Yang's participation, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra will also give another concert in the Chinese capital tonight, joined by virtuoso violinist James Ehnes.

The festival's artistic director says the festival and its Resident Orchestra hope to generate new opportunities for Chinese and international musicians to have their work presented at the highest level.
