Zhang Shuai through, Zheng Saisai out at French Open

Chinese player Zhang Shuai has reached the second round of the French Open with a straight-sets victory over Donna Vekic. 

32nd-seeded Zhang was broken twice but soon returned the favor to win the first set 7-5. 

She had to work from a set down again the next set but a double break late into the match sent her through to face Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

Second seed Karolina Pliskova sent off Zheng Saisai in straight sets 7-5, 6-2.

Pliskova says Zheng made her work during the match. 

"I have a big game. I was up in the first set 2-0 and I have many chances and I lost my serve, unfortunately, from 40-Love. But I felt like I was a little bit better even in the first set, but anything could happen. I think she played few good shots there and I had some mistakes, so that's how it is. The second set I would say there was something to build on to the next one."

Duan Yingying and Peng Shuai are in late first round action today.
