Wayne Rooney could be lining-up a move to either China or Everton, or neither, depending on who you believe

The player himself has insisted that there are only two Premiership clubs in the UK that he would be happy to play for, Everton and Manchester United.

However, given that Rooney has had a rocky few months at Manchester United and also when playing for England, Everton would seem to be the most likely long-term home for him if he's staying in the UK.

That possibility now looks to be in doubt after some UK newspapers revealed that Everton have financial concerns about attracting Rooney.

So how about a move to the Chinese Super League?

We've reported extensively on the latest news of Wayne Rooney's widely heralded potential move to China over the last few months.

It's been one of the most widely-discussed transfer stories for years. In October last year, the Manchester United Captain was set to be offered an astonishing £80 million package to move to the China Super League.

That offer was set to come from former England Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson's side Shanghai SIPG, and would apparently have included a weekly salary of £500,000.

Nevertheless, in November, Shanghai SIPG firmly denied that a move was on the table:

'There is absolutely nothing in it - zero,' said Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Since then, the rumours have only got stronger - so our bet would be firmly on Rooney heading to China.

There is, however, a third option. There are rumours that at least one side in the USA could be preparing to make him an offer.
