China’s Ding Junhui records quick win at 2017 Snooker World Open

Home favorite Ding Junhui showed no mercy in his second China derby in two days to beat Xiao Guodong 5-0 in the second round at the 2017 Snooker World Open held in Yushan County of China's Jiangxi Province.

The No. 1 snooker player in China started the match 4-0 before the mid-session interval just like what he did in the qualifiers and the first round. However, Xiao was not as lucky as Hammad Miah and Zhang Anda as too many turnovers cost his fifth frame to let Ding secure his third round berth against Joe Perry.

Ding made breaks of 56, 62, 72, 90 in the first four frames.

"I tried to concentrate more in the match and play with an easy attitude," Commented Ding after the match, "I felt good at the start of the match maybe because I can handle with the pressure better now."

Macro Fu of Hong Kong started the earlier afternoon clash against Peter Ebdon with a stunning 136-point break before they shared the following two frames. Ebdon stormed three frames to establish an early 4-2 lead. A 70-point break helped Fu stay then Ebdon chose to end the match with a 77-19 victory in the eighth frame.

"Ebdon is an excellent snooker player and someone I look up to," Said Fu, "It's always hard to play against him."

John Higgins had a tough 5-4 victory over Matthew Selt to meet David Gilbert in the third round.
