"The club's master plan for the next few years really made me excited. I am happy to work together with all the staff from the club. I will try win as many matches as possible, at the same time, try to contribute more key players to the Chinese national team."

The Italian replaced Luiz Scolari, who took over in 2015 and helped deliver three titles for Guangzhou.

Cannavaro joined Tianjin Quanjian as coach in 2016 and helped the club win promotion to the top tier of Chinese football.

He quit as head coach of Tianjin on Sunday after leading the team into third place in the league and a first-ever qualification for the Asian Champions League.
